John Pemberton negotiated Vicksburg's surrender giving the Union complete control of the Mississippi River and the western part of the United States.

Civil War history is simply part of Vicksburg's tapestry and can be found throughout the city at historic homes, churches, Old Court House Museum, Lower Mississippi River Museum and Old Depot Museum.
